Description:
The last twenty years have seen several, often conflicting trends in Latin American poetry: conversation and hallucination, baroqueness and ellipsis, the transhistorical and the political, epos and whisper. Regardless of theme or topic, a sense of wonder and disenchantment operate in unison to produce the peculiar tone of Spanish-language poetry. In English conversation, the poets Ramona de Jesús (Colombia, 1990) and Carlos F. Grigsby (Nicaragua, 1988) will discuss their own stances and affinities within this intricate landscape and read their own poems.

Invited Poets:
Ramona de Jesús (Colombia, 1990) is a poet and translator. She grew up between Bogotá and Mumbai, and has resided in Germany since 2010. De Jesús holds two master’s degrees, one in comparative literature from Berlin’s Freie Universität and another one in creative writing from Argentina’s Tres de Febrero University. Her book Dos metros cuadrados de piel won the Colombian National Award for Unpublished Books. She has received writer’s scholarships from the City of Berlin’s culture council and the Jan Michalski Foundation in Switzerland.
Carlos F. Grigsby (Managua, Nicaragua, 1988) won the Loewe Foundation Prize for Young Writers at the age of 18, for his book Una oscuridad brillando en la claridad que la claridad no logra comprender (Visor, 2008). In 2020, he won the Ernesto Cardenal in Memoriam Award for poems that were later included in his second book, Rilke y los Perros (Visor, 2022). His poetry appears in anthologies such as La poesía del siglo XX en Nicaragua (2010) and Puertas abiertas. Antología de poesía centroamericana (2011).
