José Luis Rico, currently Sivuvalo director, took part in the third conference of the Nordic collaborative network REDES hold at the University of Iceland on 18-20 June 2026.
REDES is an initiative to create and sustain a broad, decentralized, and ongoing forum focused on literary and cultural studies with an emphasis on Latin America. Its goal is to promote exchange between Latin Americanists based in the Nordic countries and those established in Latin America, Europe and other regions of the world.
The title of this third conference is “Reimagining the Future: Counter‑hegemonic Aesthetics and Epistemologies in Latin America” (“Reimaginar el futuro. Estéticas y epistemologías contrahegemónicas en América Latina”) and seeks to explore literary and artistic forms of knowledge that challenge hegemonic paradigms, revalue subaltern and ancestral epistemologies, and offer alternative responses to the crises of the modern/colonial world-system.
The event is organized in collaboration with the Vigdís International Center for Multilingualism and Intercultural Understanding.
