Welcome to discuss and listen poetry by Saima Afreen
Saima is the writer-in-residence for Villa Sarkia Writers Residency, Finland for 2017 autumn period where she’s currently working on the manuscript of her first poetry book.
Calcutta is where she grew up, smelling shiuli flowers and chewing different syllables. To breathe she churns poems; to earn a living she works as a journalist. Her poems have been featured in The McNeese Review, The Notre Dame Review, The Nassau Review, The Oklahoma Review, The Foliate Oak Literary Magazine, Episteme, Friends Journal, Shot Glass Journal, Visual Verse, Open Road Review, Muse India, Coldnoon Travel Poetics, Indian Literature, Wordweavers among others. She was invited as a poet delegate to Goa Arts and Literature Festival (2016), Guntur Poetry Festival, TEDx VJINET, Writers Carnival, Prakriti Poetry Festival, Aliah University and several other poetry platforms.
Saima won ‘The Nassau Review Writer Award in Poetry’, 2016, second prize in ‘Prakriti Foundation Poetry Contest’, 2016, the first prize in poetry contest by Wordweavers, 2013 and she was the winner in MuseIndia Poetry Contest, 2010.
